On November 3, 2017, 31-year-old Geoffrey Howe, the prison's maintenance mechanic, died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and was thus the fourth and final victim to die in this case. Autopsy reports revealed that all the four deceased victims suffered from multiple stab wounds and blunt force injuries. Smith was reportedly stabbed 67 times (including 45 stab wounds to his body) and sustained a total of 32 blunt force injuries to his head and neck. Shannon died from an anoxic brain injury caused by the blunt force trauma to her head. Howe himself died due to extensive brain and skull injuries, and also lost his left eye due to the brutality of the attack. Darden, who died due to a fatal slicing wound on her neck, also had 13 blunt force injuries to her head.

== Life == Archerd was always interested in medicine but had neither the discipline nor the money to pursue his interest. In 1940 and 1941, he worked as an assistant at the Camarillo State Mental Hospital in wards where patients were treated with insulin shock therapies. In 1950, he was sentenced to five years of probation for possession of morphine in San Francisco. After another conviction, this parole was revoked. After escaping from a minimum-security prison in Chino, he was rearrested, put in San Quentin Prison, and released again in 1953 on probation. His home was in the Alhambra region of the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County, California.
The Treaty on European Union (TEU) and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) are the two main sources of EU law. Representing agreements between all member states, the TEU focuses more on principles of democracy, human rights, and summarises the institutions, while the TFEU expands on all principles and fields of policy in which the EU can legislate. Resmetirom, a liver-directed thyroid hormone receptor beta-selective agonist, was conditionally approved for medical use in the United States in March 2024 for the treatment of noncirrhotic metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis and moderate-to-advanced fibrosis. Resmetirom was associated with increased rates of MASH resolution or regression of fibrosis, it also improved lipid levels. In August 2025, the US Food and Drug Administration expanded the indication for semaglutide to include the treatment of metabolic-associated steatohepatitis in adults with moderate-to-advanced fibrosis (excessive scar tissue in the liver). Semaglutide was associated with MASH resolution in a 72-week trial compared to placebo. The percentage of people with MASH resolution was 32.7% (compared to 16% with placebo). Semaglutide may also cause regression of liver fibrosis to a less severe stage. Another trial showed that 63% of people had complete resolution of MASH, and 36.8% had at least 1 level of regression to a less severe stage of liver fibrosis. Semaglutide was also associated with a 13% weight loss in trials of MASH and improvements of some metabolic factors (such as the hemoglobin A1c (sugar levels)) which are protective in both MASLD and MASH.
