=== Differential diagnosis === Several diseases present similarly to MS. Medical professionals use the specific presentation, history, and exam findings to make an individualized differential. Red flags are findings that suggest an alternate diagnosis, although they do not rule out MS. They include individuals being younger than 11 or older than 50, signs of nerve damage outside of the central nervous system, severe vision loss, a very rapid onset, or atypical lab and exam findings. On April 25, 2020, senior Clan del Golfo leader, Gustavo Adolfo Álvarez Téllez, who was one of Colombia's most wanted drug lords with a 580 million peso bounty for his capture, was arrested at his lavish estate in Cereté while holding a party under quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Álvarez was described as the "brain" of the cartel and by this point was reported to have taken charge of the cartel's Caribbean operations. On June 26, 2020, Clan del Golfo and FARC dissidents were confirmed to be in a direct armed conflict in northern Antioquia, known as Operation Mil. Clan del Golfo, which dispatched 1,000 of its paramilitaries from Urabá, southern Córdoba, and Chocó, hoped to suppress FARC rebels in northern Antioquia and take control of the entire municipality of Ituango. On January 2, 2022, an internal fight occurred between the ELN and FARC dissidents in Arauca, leaving 23 people dead. On June 9, 2023, the Colombian government and ELN signed a six month nationwide ceasefire, which would go into effect on August 3. This came after months of peace talks in Havana. On January 19, 2025, ELN and FARC forces erupted into combat in the Catatumbo region. Around 80 people were killed, while thousands of residents fled the violence. Many schools and sports stadiums were converted into refugee shelters, and Colombia deployed 5,000 soldiers in an attempt to restore peace. Since 13 August, 2025, clashes between FARC dissidents and the Military Forces of Colombia have resulted in at least 34 deaths and a hundred more wounded.
== Uses == Papaverine is approved to treat spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, bile ducts and ureter and for use as a cerebral and coronary vasodilator in subarachnoid hemorrhage (combined with balloon angioplasty) and coronary artery bypass surgery. Papaverine may also be used as a smooth muscle relaxant in microsurgery where it is applied directly to blood vessels. Papaverine is used as an erectile dysfunction drug, alone or sometimes in combination. Papaverine, when injected in penile tissue, causes direct smooth muscle relaxation and consequent filling of the corpus cavernosum with blood resulting in erection. A topical gel is also available for ED treatment. It is also commonly used in cryopreservation of blood vessels along with the other glycosaminoglycans and protein suspensions. Functions as a vasodilator during cryopreservation when used in conjunction with verapamil, phentolamine, nifedipine, tolazoline or nitroprusside. Papaverine is also being investigated as a topical growth factor in tissue expansion with some success. Papaverine is used as an off-label prophylaxis (preventative) of migraine headaches. It is not a first line drug such as a few beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, and some anticonvulsants such as divalproex, but rather when these first line drugs and secondary drugs such as SSRIs, angiotensin II receptor antagonists, etc. fail in the prophylaxis of migraines, have intolerable side effects or are contraindicated.

==== Friendly fire ==== While the death toll among coalition forces engaging Iraqi combatants was very low, a substantial number of deaths were caused by accidental attacks from other Allied units. Of the 148 US troops who died in battle, 24% were killed by friendly fire, a total of 35 service personnel. A further 11 died in detonations of coalition munitions. Nine British military personnel were killed in a friendly fire incident when a USAF A-10 Thunderbolt II destroyed a group of two Warrior IFVs.
== Enforcement and compliance costs, and associated privacy concerns == The financial services industry has become more vocal about the rising costs of anti–money laundering regulation and the limited benefits that they claim it brings. One commentator wrote that "[w]ithout facts, [anti–money laundering] legislation has been driven on rhetoric, driving by ill-guided activism responding to the need to be "seen to be doing something" rather than by an objective understanding of its effects on predicate crime. The social panic approach is justified by the language used—we talk of the battle against terrorism or the war on drugs". The Economist magazine has become increasingly vocal in its criticism of such regulation, particularly with reference to countering terrorist financing, referring to it as a "costly failure", although it concedes that other efforts (like reducing identity and credit card fraud) may still be effective at combating money laundering. == Indication == Trimecaine has two main application fields. The first one is local anesthesia (topical, infiltrational, topical mucosal and inhalational, spinal and Bier's intravenous). It is used in concentrations 0.4 up to 4%, in some cases (e.g. in stomatology) in mixtures with adrenaline. The other field is prophylaxis and therapy of ventriculous arrhythmia on myocardial infarction and in cardiosurgery. It is used also for prophylaxis of sympathetic reaction during tracheal intubations.
=== Cellular uptake === Fluoroquinolones can enter in cells easily via porins, so are often used to treat intracellular pathogens such as Legionella pneumophila and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. For many Gram-negative bacteria, DNA gyrase is the target, whereas topoisomerase IV is the target for many Gram-positive bacteria. Eukaryotic cells are not believed to contain DNA gyrase or topoisomerase IV. However, debate exists concerning whether the quinolones still have such an adverse effect on the DNA of healthy cells. Some compounds in this class have been shown to inhibit the synthesis of mitochondrial DNA.
